Key Takeaways:

  • Getting dressed can be an experience, not just a task: Fashion can transform how you feel—not just how you look.
  • Stop saving your favorite clothes for “special occasions.": Beautiful pieces deserve to be worn and enjoyed now.
  • Create your own occasions Dinner, wine, a Tuesday night, or simply wanting to feel beautiful are all good enough reasons to dress up.

Somewhere along the way, getting dressed became something we tried to get over with.

What’s easiest?
What’s comfortable?
What can I throw on in five minutes?

And of course, there’s nothing wrong with comfort. There are days when leggings are exactly what we need.

But I’ve been thinking about what we lose when getting dressed becomes purely functional.

Because there is something different about actually dressing.

Putting on the dress.

Choosing the earrings.

Finding the right shoes.

Adding a little lipstick.

Looking in the mirror before you walk out the door and thinking:

Oh. There she is.

That feeling has always been part of what I love about fashion.

Not simply the clothes themselves, but the transformation that can happen when you put something on and suddenly feel a little more confident, a little more feminine, a little more like yourself.

We shouldn't need a special occasion.

For so long, we've been taught to save our beautiful clothes.

Save the dress for the wedding.

Save the heels for the vacation.

Save the special piece for the perfect dinner.

But what if we stopped waiting for the occasion?

What if getting dressed was the occasion?

You don't need a wedding to wear the dress you love.

You don't need a vacation to wear the earrings you've been saving.

You don't need a special invitation to wear something that makes you feel incredible.

Sometimes the occasion is simply that you want to feel beautiful.

Dress for the life you're living.

Dress for dinner.

Dress for the wine.

Dress for the restaurant you've been wanting to try.

Dress for a Tuesday night because you feel like it.

Dress for the plans you haven't made yet.

Dress because you're celebrating something.

And sometimes, dress because you're not.

There is something powerful about choosing to make an ordinary moment feel a little more extraordinary.

And I think that's what I want La' Agra to continue to represent.

Clothing that doesn't sit quietly in the back of your closet waiting for the right moment.

Pieces that give you a reason to create the moment.

Because getting dressed should feel good.

Fashion doesn't have to be practical all the time.

It can be joyful.

It can be expressive.

It can be a little dramatic.

It can be feminine and bold and completely unnecessary—and that's exactly what makes it wonderful.

We spend so much of our lives doing what we have to do.

Getting dressed gives us a chance to do something simply because we want to.

So consider this your reminder:

Wear the dress.

Put on the earrings.

Open the bottle of wine.

Make the reservation.

Take the picture.

Don't wait for the perfect occasion.

Create one.

Because sometimes, the best reason to get dressed...

is simply you.
