For Rekha Ananthanpillai, fashion has always been more than clothing—it is art, story, and a living link to heritage. As the founder and visionary behind La’ Agra, she set out to create a luxury fashion house that honors South Asian craftsmanship while speaking fluently to the modern, global woman. Her mission is clear: to make South Asian–inspired fashion accessible, versatile, and empowering, without compromising on integrity or artistry.
Raised among the vibrant colors and intricate details of South Asian textiles, Rekha developed a deep respect for the hands and histories behind every fabric. When she launched La’ Agra, her goal was not to reinvent traditional garments, but to elevate the beauty of these textiles in silhouettes any woman could embrace. Each piece is designed with intention—to feel luxurious on the skin, to spark conversation without overwhelming, and to give women the confidence to express their individuality.
From her base in Dubai—a global hub for design and craftsmanship—Rekha produces La’ Agra in small batches. She sources handmade brocades, embroidered chiffons, and other intricate materials from India, alongside premium fabrics from Europe and across Asia. This slow, considered approach allows her to prioritize quality, sustainability, and exclusivity, while partnering with skilled craft communities and preserving centuries-old techniques. For Rekha, true luxury is not about excess, but about intention, human artistry, and garments that can be cherished and passed down.
Under her direction, La’ Agra’s collections move effortlessly between cultures and occasions, blending authentic South Asian elements with modern, sophisticated silhouettes. Every piece is an act of cultural storytelling—a bridge between heritage and modernity for women who value elegance, meaning, and versatility in equal measure.
Rekha is an alumna of the Philadelphia Fashion Incubator, where one of her dresses was displayed in the iconic Macy’s window. She received the FGI South Florida Rising Star nomination in 2023 for Women’s Ready-to-Wear and has been featured in numerous fashion and lifestyle publications, further cementing her role as a leading voice in mindful, heritage-rooted luxury. She completed her undergraduate at Elon University and has her MBA from Emory's Goizueta Business School.

Episode 1: The Inspiration
When I created La’ Agra, I knew I didn’t want fast fashion—I wanted Indian‑inspired cocktail pieces that felt elevated, modern, and made to last.
Pleated Blue became that promise in motion: crafted locally in New York with skilled makers, high-quality fabrics, and reimagined pleats that feel sculptural, fluid, and quietly powerful. It launched with my first fashion show in Philadelphia, saw moments at Macy’s, and proved that thoughtful design, luxurious materials, and non-disposable clothing could live together in one collection.
